New at The Studio

 

"Star Light, Star Bright” BOM

Join us to make this bright sherbet colored quilt. Make three of the same easily pieced blocks—6”, 9” and 12”—each month. Finish the quilt with some easy appliqué using your favorite appliqué method. Kits are available the last Saturday of the month beginning Jan. 30. 12 months.

 “Among the Leaves” BOM

This five month quilt features a botanical theme. Created by coloring with crayons (yes, crayons) and embroidered details, this quilt takes an artful approach.

Demo time : 11am Sat. Feb. 6

Saturday Sampler—Paper Pieced Piecing

Join us beginning Sat. Feb. 6 for 12 months of paper piecing. You will make two-6” blocks each month. Choose from a red and white or blue and white kit. You’ll pay $5 the first month, be here at 9am each first Saturday and have your blocks finished to receive your next kit free. Sylvia’s Bridal Quilt from Elm Creek Quilts is required.

 “Reap What You Sew” Mystery Quilt 

What is it? What will it look like? We don’t know! Come join the fun and see what this Debbie Caffrey mystery is all about. Fri. Feb.26 6-9pm and Sat. Feb. 27 noon to 6pm. Pot luck lunch on Sat. $68 + pattern.

Power Cutting Strips          Skill Level:  Beginner                 $15 + Book

Sat. Jan. 9                    12-2pm

Are your strips wonky or have a dreaded “w” when you unfold them? Learn techniques to improve your speed and accuracy. Demo class, no sewing.

Have you always wanted to make a quilt, but didn’t know where to start? Come learn all the basics, from rotary cutting to piecing and borders. Quilting and binding in Start Quilting II.

An art that’s so worth it—and as good as a tranquilizer. All you need is a few basic skills and you can master this wonderful dying art.

So you have a quilt top?  Now what?  In this class you’ll learn to baste the quilt, basic straight line machine quilting, and binding.

Does your next quit have a million half square triangles? Do you avoid quarter square triangles? Do you avoid all triangles? Learn several techniques for making both.

Beginning Machine Quilting         Skill Level: All                           $45 + book

Sat. Feb. 20             10am-4pm

Practice the simple techniques for free-motion quilting by following patterns and without a pattern. You’ll also so “stitch-in-the-ditch” quilting.

If you enjoy handwork, you will love to appliqué and become an “AA” (appliqué addict). It’s really much easier than it seems.

Do you refuse to fuse? When you do fuse, do you have to re-fuse? This demo will give you all the ins and outs of fusing.

Yes, they can! They will rotary cut (with supervision) and sew a small quilt while learning all the basic skills of sewing and quilting. They’ll have lots of fun too!   Ages 8 to 18.

You’ll be inspired and amazed to learn a variety oaf easy to master techniques for beading on any machine. Discover many approaches for attaching individual beads or beads that you’ve strung.

If you don’t have time to make an elaborate landscape quilt, these “layer curve” small landscapes are so fun and easy to make and embellish. Trust me--you can’t make just one!

High Tech Tucks             Skill Level: Intermediate                             $15 + Pattern

This quilt is made using 3-dimensional, constructed tucks to create a flowing linear design. A simple technique to create a dramatic quilt. Kit available.

Turn you aimless doodles into exciting design elements for next fabric project. Our focus will be on threadwork that can be done before a project is quilted. Some experience with free motion machine sewing required.

Learn a few simple controlled painting techniques to create these dramatic calla lilies, starting with fabric shapes and then painting on the details.

Painted Quilt from a Photo       Skill Level: All                  $60 + $12 for pattern & supplies

Wed. Mar. 31              10am-5pm

Get an overview of the basic techniques used to create a quilt from a photo and controlled painting techniques to add details and depth to an image. You will learn the pattern making process on YOUR photo and then make “Red Rock Canyon” to learn the fused appliqué technique for assembling the quilt top and the painting techniques to add details and depth.

If you love thread, this is the class for you. Your sewing machine, thread, and fabric will become your brush, paint, and canvas. You will turn simple drawings or photos into miniature works of art by applying layers of thread.

Who can resist the temptation of adding just one more fat quarter to their stash? Creating these small treasures can be almost as addicting as collecting the fabric. We’ll meet once a month for nine months, making a small quilt (16”x20”) each month.

Scrap Bags

You can never have too many scraps—well, maybe we do!

Starting in January we will have scrap bags available for

 $5 a bag. 

They will be filled with scraps large and small—perfect for appliqué, string piecing or whatever your heart desires.

Scrappy Hour

 is every Fri. and Sat. from 4-6pm when scrap bags will be half price!

 

 

Class Policies:

• Classes to be paid in full at registration.
• Student Cancellation requires 1 week notice for store credit only. If we cancel a class, you will receive a refund in the form that you paid.
• Classes without a minimum of 3 students are subject to cancellation. Students will be given a full refund.
• Please arrive 15 minutes before class and turn off cell phones.
• Please have all required materials purchased prior to class beginning.
• Machine classes require a basic knowledge of your machine and basic rotary cutting skills unless otherwise noted.
• 15% discount given on class supplies purchased at TQS. 
• Parking Permits
  Just a reminder that parking in the back lot as well as on the street is 2 hrs.
  For all day classes we will be happy to get parking permits for you if you pay the $5 in cash at least 2 days before each class.
